Je bent welkom in de Salonbar, er is weer een nieuw thema en nieuwe gasten.
Deze zondag: Chris Schoonenberg

From its inception on, Christianity as an institutionalized religion has been an oppressive force towards queer people. From homophobia in the Bible, to faith-inspired persecution of queer people throughout the ages, liberation has been the opposite of what this religious tradition has offered queer people. Despite religious violence and trauma, however, queer people have also always found life giving forms of spirituality and have formed relationships with God(s) on their own terms. In this salon there will be space to hold the tension between being queer and being religious.
Often not being welcome in official religious spaces, the everyday is an important site of queer holiness. After a short introduction of different queer ways of relating to religious tradition by Chris Schoonenberg, we will spend the afternoon creating our own pocket altar to pay homage to what is holy in our own lives, to that which we want to hold closely. While creating, we will explore together what queer spirituality looks like and how we can practice towards liberation together.
This Palari will be captured in word and image by Stevie Johnson and Marta Segura Calero.
What do you need?
We will provide materials to make the pocket altars. We ask you to bring a few small items with you that you would like to put into your altar. This can be a small photo or image, a note someone wrote you, a charm or a piece of jewellery. As long as it’s small enough to incorporate into the material.
